'Efforts on to strengthen Police Department'

Home Minister N. Chinarajappa and Director-General of Police R.P. Thakur inaugurated the model police station at Sarpavaram in the city and the sub-divisional police office at Peddapuram town on Wednesday.


Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Chinarajappa said that efforts were on to strengthen the police department by developing infrastructure and facilities. “Equal importance is being accorded to filling the vacancies. We have already recruited 6,000 men and issued notification to fill another 3,155 posts,” he said, adding that aspirants from diverse backgrounds such as science and technology were applying for police jobs and the services of those candidates would be used in an effective manner to curtail white collar offences.


High-tech crime


Expressing concern over the increase in high-tech crime, he said that latest technology would be used to curtail those offences. He said that the model police station at Sarpavaram was one among the 73 units being built all over the State and ?1.2 crore was being spent on each unit. “We also providing vehicles and other infrastructure to the police in a phased manner,” he added.


Promotion orders


Mr. Thakur said that efforts were on to promote the police personnel to the next levels, as a good number of constables were not getting a single promotion in their entire service. “We are chalking out the seniority lists now. Once the lists are prepared, we will issue the promotion orders to the eligible,” he said. He observed a drop in the Maoist activity in the Agency area and said that the policing were strengthened in the sensitive areas.
